Frames

Posted by: dunlopdesigns on: November 19, 2008

It’s been a long time since I scrapped and posted on here but I am hoping to be back. I scrapped today!!

Lately I have been really loving different frames and was really inspired when I saw this picture from blueprint on Martha Stewart.

Love how the frames are arranged. It inspired me to make this page:

Sandy Grason: Journalution

Posted by: dunlopdesigns on: May 14, 2008

My journaling on my page is usually simple with just the date and place. While looking for help with my journaling, I came across Sandy Grason.

Sandy Grason is the “Rock Star Author” of the bestselling book, JOURNALUTION: Journaling to Awaken Your Inner Voice, Heal Your Life and Manifest Your Dreams. Sandy defines the word Journalution as the act of revealing your inner wisdom through writing. Get 2 Free Gifts “Top Ten Tips for Starting & Keeping a Journal” article *and* 30+ FREE journaling prompts now at www.sandygrason.com

I was inspired by her journaling prompt in her newsletter: Seven minutes in heaven.

*Seven Minutes in Heaven*

Take the next seven minutes and write down at least seven things you feel grateful for. It will shift your mood immediately. Now see if you can keep this up for seven days. It doesn’t matter when you do this – morning, noon or night. Just try for seven days, to gather seven things to write down. It’s only seven days; if you miss a day, just keep going. Start right there in the moment when you notice something you’re grateful for, and jot it down. Right that second!

Don’t beat yourself up for forgetting to write sooner; just move forward with your gratitude. You can write, “I’m so grateful I remembered to do this,” and keep going with your day.

Some days it may feel like the only thing to be grateful for is that the day is over. That’s okay, too. It won’t be long before you notice the shifts – a slight feeling of lightness as you wake up, a bounce in your step, smiling at strangers.

These are some of the little ways in which gratitude can seep into your day. There is no wrong way to do this. Just have fun, make it a game, and see what happens.

Here’s a journal entry from my husband, made when I was nudging him to keep a gratitude journal:

  1. I am so grateful that Denver just won the Super Bowl.
  2. I am so grateful that I’m about to sleep for eight hours.
  3. I am so grateful that I have shelter from the elements.
  4. I am so grateful that I am in good health and my family is in good health.
  5. I am so grateful that Sandy stopped yapping about journaling.

How much is too much?

Posted by: dunlopdesigns on: April 21, 2008

“We all have too much stuff. Admit it! We all do. Let’s use them.” ~How much is too much?

How much is too much? is a challenge blog that hosts a new blog every monday. They give you a list of supplies for you to use and you do the rest of the work to make an awesome page!

This challenge blog is geared towards paper scrapbookers to use their stash up but I’m sure there is digiscrapbookers that have bought supplies and havent even touched them yet. I know I have lots sitting on my EHD waitting to be used!

This week the blog is taking a break from hosting the challenge today. so today is a great time to go back and look at the past challenges and do one!!

I did challenge #58:

Instructions from the blog: “We all have alphabets in our scrapbooking stash — from chipboard to foam to stickers to rub-ons and even digital. This week’s challenge is to use ALL 26 letters of the alphabet (from a to z) on your layout. The letters don’t all have to be from the same manufacturer (unless you want to). Feel free to mix it up! Just remember to use all 26 letters (a,b,c,d,e,f, etc.) ! Have fun! I know your layouts will be “letter-perfect” ;)

Scrapbooker Spotlight

Posted by: dunlopdesigns on: April 14, 2008

I love looking through online scrapbook galleries! I get lots of inspiration from other scrapbookers. I love to scraplift if I lost my scrapbooking mojo. I thought I would spotlight one of my favourite scrapbookers, Kate Hadfield A.K.A whatkatiedid on the scrapbook boards.

Kate Hadfield lives in Cheshire, England with her husband and two small children and is an avid digital scrapbooker. Originally a cardmaker, she stumbled across a digital scrapping website by accident in early 2006 and was instantly hooked! “Digital scrapping is the perfect creative outlet for me as it brings together all the favourite parts of my other hobbies, just without all the mess! I love to scrap the everyday moments of my children’s lives, the little things that might otherwise be forgotten.” Kate is on the Creative Teams for a number of leading digital designers, is a regular contributor to UK Scrapbooking magazines and also serves on the Creative Team for Digital Artist Magazine. She also designs her own range of digital scrapbooking elements and doodles.

Here are some of my favourite pages of Kate’s:

I was so lucky,  I had the opportunity to ask Kate some questions and I’d love to share them with you. Questions are in Bold.

When did you start scrap booking?

I started scrapbooking in the spring of 2006, quite by accident! Whilst surfing I came across a digital scrapbook website, downloaded my first free kit, started playing around with PhotoShop and instantly knew that this was something that could take over my life!

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Most definitely my children – in terms of subject matter for my pages and inspiration for my designs. Interesting colour combinations and patterns inspire me too, ideas can come from anywhere and everywhere really! I still have my student sketchbooks so when I’m stuck I often flick through those for ideas for my designs, and browsing the galleries always inspires me to scrap.

What is one embellishment you find yourself using over and over again?

Stitching. I think all my layouts have some stitching on somewhere, either big chunky stitches, ties, or small decorative stitches, I’m a big fan of stitching! I like buttons too and seem to be using them a lot at the moment.

When making your page, do you stick to one designer or use several designers’ designs?

I always mix and match lots of bits and pieces from different designers. I tend to only use one or two sheets of paper but I use a lot of elements and alphas and I enjoy choosing lots of fun pieces to create my pages!

Kate is not only a very talented scrapbooker but she also designs too. She makes adroble doodles and awesome collab kits. You can check out her store here. She is also guest designer at Catscrap this month, and can be found here.

Thanks Kate for being in the spotlight and all your inspiration you give me!

Here is an older page I did that was a scraplift of Kate’s page.

Check out her gallery for more inspiring pages and you can read her blog here.

There are many ways you can be inspired by a scrapbooker. Maybe you’re inspired by the way Kate loves to use lots of stitching and buttons. Maybe you’re inspired by the way she uses several designers designs on her page. Or maybe you’re inspired by the overall look of her pages. I hope she inspires you too!

Remember if you make a page inspired by her, please post a comment with a link to your page, so I can leave you some love.

Curly Girl Designs

Posted by: dunlopdesigns on: April 10, 2008

I came across Curly Girl Design a long time ago but always keep going back to look at amazing work. I love the whimical collage feel of all her work. Plus her quotes always give me a good laugh. Go check out her shop on her site to see her awesome artwork.

I was inspired by her magnet called “One of the hardest things to realize” (5th one on the top row) I loved the collage look of the background, the big quote with “she said” and the white border around the girl.

Here is my fun layout I made inspired by it:

Hope she inspires me and if she does, dont forget to leave a comment with a link to wear I can see your art.

Happy Scrapping!!
